This pendulum application was created in November 2021.
How it works
The model simulates a pendulum with several balls.
Each ball follows the movement of a pendulum like the weight on a sling in old fashioned clock moving from left to right and than back again until infinity.
Instead a single weight we use several balls for this pendulum.
The first ball starts moving according to a sine wave.
Then the next ball follows with a small deviation in the moving direction.
The next consecutive ball follows the same movement but with its own deviation or delay.
A snake like patteren occurs.
This snake like patteren diasappears into chaos until some parallel lines start to appear.
Somewhat later the snake like pattern re-occurs.
Parameters
To influence the behaviour of the model you can twist some parameters.
To limit the amount of calculations the parameters are limited within certain ranges.
Parameter | Default | Valid range | Meaning |
Nr of balls | 12 | 1 - 20 | Number of balls in the pendulum. |
Ball diameter | 30 | 5 - 100 | Size of the ball. |
Nr of cycles | 500 | 0 - 9999 | Amount of cycles the model will perform. |
Deviation | 2 | 1 - 10 | The deviation or delay between consecutive balls. |
Each of these parameters can be manually modified and twisted.
The graph
The results of the run is displayed in the graph area.
Modify the behaviour
The model uses default values for the parameters. These can be changed.
Run the model again and you will see the impact of these new values.
